Tip
of the Week
Family Hour
Want to improve your kids' eating habits? Turn your
dinner hour into family hour.
Though it might be a challenge to get the
whole gang to sit down together, a new study shows that it may be worth the extra effort.
Researchers at Harvard Medical School studied the eating habits of 16,000 children
and found that the kids who ate dinner with their families consumed more fruits and
veggies, fewer fried foods, saturated fats, and trans fats, and more fiber than the
youngsters who rarely ate with their folks.
By helping your children to eat healthfully,
you can instill a taste and preference for nutritious food that will last a lifetime.
If you need help preparing new, more healthful dishes, buy a low-fat cookbook.
Try out a new recipe a few nights each week. Be inventive, bold, and
adventurous. If you always eat a certain style of food, break the mold. Try new
options: Thai, Italian, or vegetarian. Make healthful eating an adventure, not a chore.
