Tip
of the Week
In a recent study, German researchers equipped participants with heart rate monitors and asked them to hit the links. Unexpectedly, the golfers spent more than two hours per round with a heart rate high enough to boost their fitness levels. That's significantly more than the amount of daily exercise (20 to 60 minutes) recommended for endurance training.
One caveat: No golf carts allowed! If you want this kind of heart benefit, you'll need to walk the course and carry or pull your own clubs.
Exercises performed at low and moderate intensity will help you stay fit and healthy. You do not need to exercise strenuously to improve your health. For example, regular, moderate activity, such as three 10-minute walks per day, reduces your risk of death by disease as much as 60%.
